The X5 Le Mans, it was never an official model, and it never ran in any competitve series, like the Paris-Dakkar Rally. It was a one-off model which BMW built to celebrate their 1999 victory at the Le Mans using the 6.0-litre V12 engine in the LMR BMW.

The celebration consisted of the V12 engine from the LMR prototype car being slapped into the big, 2000 model year X5 SAV.

The V12 engine put out around 700-hp and the X5 Le Mans featured a 6-speed manual gearbox, 20 inch performance wheels and a significantly lowered suspension. There were also reports that the BMW X5 Le Mans edition was tested around the Nurburgring by BMW’s touring car test driver, Hans Stuck, and he managed 7 minutes and 50 seconds, which is only about 25 seconds slow than the Nissan GT-R or Porsche 997 GT2, and this all happened eight years ago.
