Porsche will offer a 4-cylinder turbo engine in the new Boxster
Pricing | Dean | November 4, 2008 at 13:11Porsche will release their second-generation Boxster sometime in 2011 and it will feature a new base model with a fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine. The last 4-cylinder engine which was released by Porsche was in the 1990s, and it was in the 968 model. The 968 was equipped with one of the largest four-cylinder engines ever in a production car, it had a displacement of 3.0-litres. The new Boxster’s straight-four will be a lot smaller, with a displacement around 2.0 – 2.4-litres.
The reports say that the entry level 2011 Porsche Boxster will likely be turbocharged, for power output of around 200hp. This is not really the type of power that you see from Porsche, but it is also said that the new Boxster will be significantly lighter, so this will compensate for the smaller output.
There is no word yet on whether or not Porsche will create their own engine or use the VW-Audi groups 2.0-liter TFSI engine as a base. Either way it seems as if Porsche are planning for smaller engine displacements and lower CO2 emissions.
