Ford planning a global mid-sized sedan

Ford Motor Company’s CEO, Alan Mulally, has confirmed that he wants the automaker to use certain platforms for global vehicles. Derrick Kuzak, Ford’s group vice president of global development has said that Ford’s global mid-sized car, which will replace the Ford Fusion, will be the European Mondeo.

“We’re transitioning to a Fusion-Mondeo convergence,” Kuzak told Automotive News at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.

The Mondeo platform will be the foundation for a new mid-sized global model, and this will also allow for  core-development work on the car to be done by the European engineers.

There is no news on when the new global mid-sized car will arrive.
