The next generation Opel Meriva is currently in its testing phase, where it was caught, again. This time the Meriva has a bit less camouflage, but it is still pretty covered up. The Meriva is expected to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which will be in September.

Opel have tried so hard to confused the public with fake rear-door handles, but the word is out that the Meriva will have rear-hinged suicide doors, called FlexDoors. The doors will be the same ones found in the Meriva at the Geneva Show in 2008.

It was said that the Flexdoors will allow the new Meriva to be more comfortable, versatile and safer than the current model.

Expect styling cues from the Insignia making its way onto the Meriva, where you will find similar front-end styling. The interior will also be inspired from the Insignia, where you will also find Opel’s FlexSpace rear seating system which will transform the vehicle into a five, four, three, two or even a one-seater without removing the seats.

The Meriva will use the same underpinnings as the new Corsa, and it will have a large amount of powertrain options. You will find both diesel and petrol engines. Expect the 1.4-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol unit with 120 to 140-hp.

The OPC Meriva will have a 1.6-litre petrol unit with about 180-hp.
