News from Ford is that the Focus RS with 300-horsepower will not make its way to the North American market as the cost will be just too great. This news comes as a recent interview with Ford’s new Global Performance Vehicles and Motorsport Business Development director, Jost Capito, explained that there is no plans for this model in the states.
“We’d like to, but the base car isn’t homologated for North America, and that’s too costly a job to carry out just for a niche vehicle like the RS,” said Capito.
It was asked about the chance of high-performance Fiesta in the states, and Capito said that he could not discuss Ford’s future plans, but he does believe that, “in Europe, the Fiesta and Focus are too close to make two similar performance models work.”
AutoCar did not ask more questions about this, but the answer from Capito means that we should not rule out a possibility of a Fiesta RS, or a high-performance Fiesta even, for the US market. Most automakers in the USA are going to start downsizing very soon, and this will probably start as soon as Fiat bring in smaller cars, which means, this powerful Fiesta for the US market is completely viable.
