Spy Shots: 2012 Volkswagen Passat on the ‘Ring

Volkswagen’s next-generation Passat for 2012 has been caught in prototype form on the Nurburgring in Germany. The mule was caught with the old Passat body that features some slight modifications which include wider wheel wells and lengthened B-pillars.

These two modifications alone reveal that the body will be longer and wider than the current model.

It is expected that the styling on the new Passat will feature a more aggressive look which will be more luxurious and dynamic.

Sources have said that the new Passat will have new weight saving technologies, such as ultra-thin glass, foam chassis reinforcements, and a low friction 4Motion all wheel drive system. There will also be other technologies such as a new automatic parking system, an advanced window clearing system, 360 degree cameras, “airless” Continental tyres, adaptive cruise control and maybe even a new low-voltage sci-fi paint job which will allow the driver to change the color by adjusting the current.

On the power side of the car you will find engines such as the 3.0-litre V6 with 280-hp, and maybe even a new diesel unit with 300-hp and an eight speed DSG ‘box. Volkswagen should also include a hybrid version of the 3.0-litre V6.
