Images & News – VW BlueSport Roadster
Miscellaneous | Dean | June 10, 2009 at 09:57We recently revealed news about the Volkswagen BlueSport concept going into production, where we said that the model might come onto the market as either an Audi or SEAT model.
The VW Group is so serious about the development of the BlueSport that they have unveiled the internal development code name, as well as invited a few journalists to drive the car.
“The two-seater is still a concept, but as a production car it would have the best talents for turning the segment of compact, genuine sports cars upside down,” said VW in a statement. “That is because this roadster is sporty, sustainable and affordable all at once – a people’s car and a sports car for a new era.”
This means that the mid-engined rear wheel drive BlueSport roadster will be an alternative to the Porsche Boxster, and it will feature a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine with a turbocharger. Power will be set at 180 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque with the power going to the road via a 6-speed DSG ‘box.
The 0-100km/h time will be 6.6 seconds with the top speed coming in at 226km/h. There will be an average fuel consumption of 4.3-litres per 100km.
The diesel engine found in the model will not be the only unit though, we can expect that there will be a range of turbocharged TSI petrol engines and also a load of TDI diesel units from various VW models.
Check out images of the roadster below, and don’t forget to tell us what you think.
