These images reveal the latest Astra drop-top model. The new convertible in the Opel/Vauxhall range will be a two seater model that has an excitement similar to that of an OPC model. The Astra drop-top will soon replace the four-seater TwinTop where it will then rival the Volkswagen Scirocco CC which is coming soon.

Opel’s Astra drop-top will have an aggressive stance with a steeply raked windshield. There will be a folding metal roof with twin roll-over ‘humps’ which will protect the occupants in case of an accident. The new drop-top also features a set of new front spot lights, lowered side skirts and a twin chrome exhaust set.

The inside will have a sports steering wheel with body hugging seats. There will be size similar to that found in the Astra three-door hatchback, except there will only be space for two.

Opel/Vauxhall are not planning an OPC model so expect power from a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 270-brake horsepower. The 0-100km/h sprint will come in about six seconds and there will be a top speed of 240km/h. This motor will then be accompanied by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol motor with 150-bhp, as well as a 170-bhp 2.0-litre diesel turbocharged engine.

All of these features are nice, and new.. But… The Astra drop-top is still a long way off.
