MINI is turning 50 years old tomorrow, the 26th of August, 2009. The British automaker will then reveal the first images of the two-seater coupe concept car for the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new design for the MINI coupe will be a new steep windshield and roof.

It’s been hinted that the new MINI will use a John Cooper Works 1.6-litre engine with 211 horsepower and 280Nm of torque. The car might however be even quicker than expect as the company should use new lightweight materials such as an aluminium roof and then remove the rear seats.

The coupe will be followed by a Roadster model, which will also be at the Frankfurt Show.
