Yesterday we released details on Volkswagen’s Polo three-door, where today we have news on the crash test rating for the four-dour hatch. The Euro NCAP staff awarded the Polo with a 5-star rating and this is all thanks to a new body structure, along with a highly effective seat-belt and airbag combination.
Volkswagen says that during the Euro NCAP tests, the passenger cell remained “nearly undamaged”. “The crash dummies testify to the Polo’s high scores in the most important categories: occupant protection and child safety. The structurally rigid body, among other things, contributes to this result,” the company states.
The Polo will have high strength steel all round, where it will also have increased pedestrian safety with the help of a ‘harp’ which his a piece of metal placed behind the bumper. This piece of metal will take damage in order to reduce the amount of leg damage.
