Acura has released their brand new Acura TL model into the American market where it is now available with a manual transmission. The manual ‘box will only be available on the range-topping model, which is the SH-AWD. The SH-AWD, as the name states, features an all-wheel-drive system with a 3.7-litre V6 engine pumping out 227kW and 370Nm of torque.
“The new manual transmission equipped TL SH-AWD allows the enthusiast driver to take full advantage of the performance of Acura’s SH-AWD system,” said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales, “Not only is the new 6-speed manual transmission model the best performing Acura TL ever, it is the top handling performer among every vehicle in its class.”
So why did Acura add the manual gearbox to their range-topping model? Well, it’s said that the manual transmission weighs in at a staggering 50kilograms lighter than the automatic transmission.
The 2010 Acura TL SH-AWD will feature a new suspension and steering wheel system, where the coil springs and shock absorbers will be upgraded for better cornering with reduced pitching motions under acceleration or braking.
Improvements do include a new Electric Power Steering module, and new transmission bushings.
The performance figures have not yet been revealed, but the fuel economy is rated at 18/26 for the city and highway.
Pricing for the SW AWD starts at $42,385 for the automatic version connected to a Technology package.
