Audi has announced that they will add a start/stop system to the S Tronic A3 models. The A3 models fitted with a dual clutch gearbox will soon be able to use regenerated power for better fuel consumption from the 1.6 TDI and 1.4 TFSI engines.

The new diesel A3 will use 4.2-litres per 100km while it only emits 109g/km, where the petrol model will use 5.3-litres per 100km and emit 124g/km of CO2.

These are both four-cylinder engines, and the diesel unit pumps out 79kW with 250Nm of torque. The 0-100km/h time on the diesel is set at 11.7 seconds with the top speed being 194km/h. The petrol model will have 93kW with 200Nm of torque. The 0-100km/h time will be 9.3 seconds, while the top speed will be set at 203km/h.

Alongside the S Tronic ‘box, and the start/stop system there will be an energy-recovery system. The energy-recovery system will gain energy from braking, or coasting. This power will be temporarily stored in the battery where it will then be sent back through the alternator to the electrical system and ultimately reduce fuel economy.
