General Motors has announced that the name of the new mid-size Buick sedan will in fact be the Regal. The new Buick Regal is expected to be pretty much identical to the Chinese market Buick Regal (pictured). For those clued up on the Regal, you will realise that the Opel Insignia from Europe is in fact the same thing.

The Opel Insignia and Buick Regal only really differ with styling to the front grille, and the shape of the front fog lights.

“The transformation of Buick began with our luxury crossover, the Buick Enclave and continued this year with the launch of the 2010 LaCrosse premium sedan,” said Susan Docherty, Buick GMC General Manager. “We’re thrilled to announce that the Regal will be the next member of the Buick family.”

General Motors said that the Regal name has been out off the road for about six year now, and they would like to bring it back to consumers.

The General did not say when the Regal would arrive for sale, however its expected to be around 2010 or early 2011. The engine range will probably consist of 4-cylinder turbocharged units, and also V6 units.
