Despite Magna planning to layoff a truck-load of workers in Germany, reports have said that Spain might see fewer jobs lost. The original plan from the new Opel owner stated that Spain’s Zaragoza plant would lose 1,650 employees, but after negotiations with the union leaders it seems as if the Canadian firm will only cut 1,300 jobs.
Along with the lower staff cut, it was said that this plant will now be dedicated to building the five-door Corsa model.
“Magna have tabled a new plan for the plant today, which involves making 100 percent of the five-door Opel Corsa,” said Ana Sanchez, an official at the Comisiones Obreras union.
Leaked Documents — Lay off figures from Magna:
The restructuring process in Germany will start with 4,116 fired employees.
Belgium will see 2,517 fired employees.
Spain was expected to see 2,090 fired employees.
The UK would only see 1,373 workers laid off.
