Porsche Are Planning A New Bottom-Of-The-Range Model

Porsche are thinking about creating a brand new lower cost model for the future. The new low cost car will be offered with a price tag below that of the Boxster, which is the current bottom-of-the-range model.

The reason for Porsche looking into a new low-cost car is due to the new alliance with Vollkswagen. The VW-Porsche partnership has deemed this car a ‘priority’ as both firms would like to reduce overall costs for new vehicles.

Alongside the reduction of costs, Porsche had previously hinted that they would like to sell around 150,000 units per year and to achieve this they would need a low cost model to help them out.

“If the world economy picks up again we can well imagine unit sales of 150,000 Porsche cars per year,” said chief executive Michael Macht. “But we won’t achieve this with the four models that are existing today. Otherwise, we would have to significantly increase the number of cars of the current models. And then we would not be exclusive anymore. Therefore we have to think about new vehicles.”

Other rumours are saying that instead of a low-cost solution; an electric vehicle might just work. Macht commented by saying “that one day Porsche will have an electric sports car in its line-up.”
