Rumours revolving around Toyota state that the Japanese automaker is looking to build a Honda CR-Z hybrid rival. At the moment the internet has no official plans about this model, however Japan’s Best Car magazine is reporting that Toyota might revive the MR2 as a hybrid model.

The name on the MR2 would change to the MR-S and it could compete against the CR-Z in 2010.

Speculation states that the powertrain could be a modified Prius unit, where there would be a mid-mount engine along with a rear wheel drive layout.
