Fiat is planning a refresh for 2010 and 2010, where the new 500 mini will boast a new engine. The Fiat 500 will soon be available with a 0.9-litre twin-cylinder petrol engine that houses turbocharging and Fiat’s Multiair technology.

The Italian automaker said that the engine will have the same amount of power as the larger naturally aspirated four-cylinder units, as well as the same economy and emission figures.

In fact, there will actually be slight advantages in the fuel consumption as the engine is about 20 percent lighter than the normal units with the same output.

“This is the maximum expression of the concept of downsizing, offering lower consumption and emissions without impacting performance,” said Fiat.

The new engine will come with 80-hp and 105-hp, where there will then be a 65-hp naturally aspirated unit.
