General Motors Will Sell A Few SAAB Assets To The BAIC Brand
Miscellaneous, Reports | Dean | December 15, 2009 at 19:51General Motors has come to an agreement with Beijing Automotive Industry Holdings Co. Ltd (BAIC) for the sale of key SAAB assets. BAIC will soon obtain intellectual rights for the current 9-5 and 9-3 models, followed by some powertrain and tooling knowledge.
The agreement does not include any information of that from the new 9-5 model which is based on the Opel Insignia.
The deal will see BAIC introduce Saab-like cars into the Chinese market, and this will then allow the Chinese automaker to also incorporate Saab technology into their own models.
“This arrangement is excellent for both parties, now and for the future,” said Jan Åke Jonsson, Managing Director of Saab Automobile.
“We have developed a good relationship with BAIC and look forward to working with them to integrate this Saab technology into their future vehicles,” he added.
Apparently it was said that this sale will not compromise any Saab sale to potential buyers.
