Volkswagen Amarok — First Photo’s Of The New Pickup Which Is Coming To South Africa

Volkswagen has released the first images of their new pickup, the Amarok. The new model will be a 1-tonne pickup with body-styles that include a four-door double cab and single-cab layout. The new Amarok will be sold in South Africa and Australia.

There will be a new muscular exterior and a passenger-car-like design for the interior. Styling has not changed much when compared to the concept model from that 2008 Hannover motor show in Germany.

The new Amarok can tow 2.8 tonnes, and move 1.15 tonnes of on-board luggage.

VW’s Amarok has a 2.52 square-meter cargo area, and this is the largest in its class. Simply put: It’s a mid-size pickup, which is a first for VW.

The powertain consists of the following two engines, the 2.0-litre TDI turbo diesel engine which pumps out 163-hp with 400Nm of torque, and the 122-horsepower unit with 340Nm of torque. Both of these diesel engines will be connected to a six-speed manual gearbox.

There will be a choice of rear-wheel-drive and a switchable or permanent 4MOTION all-wheel-drive setup. The AWD version will use a Torsen differential to distribute the drive at a 40:60 ratio to the front and rear axles.

VW said that the fuel consumption stands at 7.6-litres per 100km/h for the 122-hp model, or 7.8-litres per 100km for the 163-hp model with an 80-litre tank.

Wheels for the base model come in the size of 16 inches and they will be followed by other basic things such as unpainted door handles, mirrors and bumper.

The Trendline will boast painted bumpers, door handles and mirror housings along with electrically operated windows, door locks and mirrors along with a new CD player. There will be 16-inch wheels, climate control, a multi-functional display, cruise control and front fog lights.

VW’s range topping Highline will boast chrome mirror housings, some more chrome on other details, fender skirt extensions, 17-inch wheels, a new instrument panel, automatic climate control, leather detailing and an high-end audio system.
