BMW is replacing their N54 3.0-litre twin turbocharged six-cylinder engine found in the 335i models. The new engine to replace this will be the twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six cylinder N55 unit. The latest N55’s will be found in the 2011 model year 135i Coupe and Convertible models.

Maximum output from the engine will be 300-horsepower and the peak torque will be 300lb-ft of torque. In fact, these figures are the same as the current model, so the difference would come in where the twin-scroll turbocharger will allow for better throttle response and more fuel efficiency.

The engine will see torque being reached 100rpm earlier than the outgoing model, while the entire boost response has been improved.
