The 2011 Audi A1 Has Officially Been Revealed

Audi has officially reveal their brand new premium supermini called the A1. The Audi A1 will rival the MINI Cooper, and the others in that range. There will be a three-door hatchback lay out where the five-door Sportsback model will arrive a while after the release.

The A1 will remain in close connection to the Metro concept which was revealed in 2007, and it will see a colour-contrasted roof arch which will be available in different shades. The interior will have four round air nozzles which are meant to resemble the turbines from a jet. Audi will have many customization options for the A1 and this includes LED interior lighting, seat covers and coloured air nozzles.

The chassis will be a modified VW Polo chassis, and it will offer better driving pleasure than the Polo and Skoda Fabia models. Size wise the A1 measures in at 3.95 meters in length, 1.74 meters in width and 1.42 meters in height and has a wheelbase of 2.47 meters.

At launch there will be two petrol and two diesel engines available. All of them will boast turbocharging, start-stop technology and direct-injection.

The entry level model will be a 1.2-litre TFSI with 86-horsepower and 160Nm of torque. This will be connected to a manual transmission with 5 gears. The 0-100km/h time will be 12.1 seconds where the top speed will be 179g/km.

The 1.4-litre TFSI will be the 122-horsepower model with 200Nm of torque. This petrol unit will have the seven-speed S tronic double clutch box, where the 0-100km/h time will be 9.1 seconds. The top speed will be 200km/h.

Fuel consumption wise the 1.4-litre model will use 5.1-litres per 100km.

The diesel models will have a 1.6-litre displacement and it will pump out 105-horsepower with 250Nm of torque. The five-speed gearbox will allow for a 0-100km/h time of 10.8 seconds with a top speed of 187km/h. The average fuel consumption will be a low 3.9-litres per 100km.

The second diesel engine is also a 1.6-litre TDI unit and it will have 90-hp with 230Nm of torque. The five-speed box will allow for a fuel consumption of 3.8-litres per 100 with CO2 emissions set at 99g/km. The 0-100km/h time is 12.2 seconds.

There models will all have front-wheel-drive and they will be equipped with ESP as a standard.

The weight of the supermini A1 will be 1045kg.

Expect the reveal at the Geneva show where pricing should be about €16,000 for the base model.
