Meet Volkswagens New Polo Vivo, Their New Entry Level Car — Pricing Starts At R101 500

Volkswagen’s recent base-entry to the automotive market was the Citi Golf, however this has now been done away with. Following the removal of the Citi, VW has added a new entry level Polo called the Vivo. The Polo Vivo will be an entry-level vehicle in the A0 segment.

The Polo Vivo is aimed at VW’s vision of being “most innovative volume brand in the world”. This pretty much means that the Vivo will be damn affordable.

Volkswagen’s new Polo Vivo will offer affordability, comfort, safety, quality and finally — space. There will be two versions available, the hatchback and the sedan.

Before we get into the various models, let’s talk about the name.

Vivo is an extension of the original Classic and Playa from the ’90’s where they established the brand in the country. The Vivo has a strong resonance and it’s easy to remember, and this is why VW chose it.

The two body styles will be pretty similar, where the power come from three multi-valve engines. A 1.4-litre 55kW unit, a 1.4-litre 63kW unit and a range topping 1.6-litre 77kW unit. All of these engines will be connected to five-speed manual gearboxes.

The range topping 1.6-litre unit will boast a maximum torque out put of 155Nm, along with a top speed of 187km/h. The 0-100km/h time will be 10.6 seconds while the fuel consumption will be 6.6-litres per 100km.

The 1.4-litre engines will use 6.2-litres of fuel every 100km.
