Nissan’s Leaf Finds Its 3rd Manufacturing Home In The UK
Hybrid/Electric | Dean | March 19, 2010 at 00:51Nissan’s new Leaf electric vehicle will find its third manufacturing home in the United Kingdom. The Leaf will start production in Oppama, Japan later this year where it will come to Smyrna, Tennessee in the USA by 2012. Following this will be the Sunderland plant in the UK which starts production during the 2013 year.
The Sunderland plant will pump out about 50,000 units per year. This plant will allow for the construction of their lithium-ion battery which will be used in the small road-car.
The Lead will boast an investment of more than 420million GBP and it is expected to create another 2,250 jobs at Nissan in the UK.
There will eb a 1.7-horsepower electric motor in the Leaf and this will allow for a driving range of about 160kilometers when coupled with the lithium-ion battery.
