We recently commented on a Corvette C7, which should arrive around the year 2012. Following this is news on the next-next-generation Corvette C8. That’s right, we’re already hearing about year 2016 and what it has to offer, sportscar wise.

The C7 will pretty much be an updated C6 model, and it’s hinted that the emphasis on the next model will be interior quality and exterior styling. The C8 on the other hand is said to be ground-breaking.

“That [the C7] will be the last of the traditional, old-style Corvettes,” said an unnamed senior GM insider to AutoWeek.

The C8 should have been the C7, but unfortunately the world stopped as economies crashed, and thus leaving us with a 6-year wait for the new model. The C8 is said to boast a mid-engined layout which holds a turbocharged V6 powetrain.

There are reports that there will be lightweight alloy body panels.

A turbocharged V6 in 2016? Perhaps things from here, until then, will change and we’ll actually see electric power included too. Who knows.
