Audi’s 2011 Q7 SUV Will Boast New Engines And New Gearboxes
Pricing | Dean | April 8, 2010 at 21:09Audi is adding three brand new V6 engines as well as a new 8-speed tip-tronic transmission to the Q7 SUV. There will be two petrol and one diesel V6 being added to the range. Each of these motors include direct-injection as well as forced induction followed by a brake energy recovery system.
The first addition is a 3.0-litre TFSI unit. There will be two of these units available and they will both include a supercharger connected to the V6 layout. Audi’s basic 3.0-litre TFSI engine produces 272-horsepower with 300Nm of torque, and this is good for a 0-100km/h time of 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 222km/h.
Audi’s second version of the 3.0-litre TFSI motor will replace the 4.2-litre FSI V8 unit. The power will stand at 333-horsepower with 440Nm of torque. There is a 0-100km/h time of 6.9 seconds, and a top speed of 243km/h.
The German automaker has said that the fuel consumption will be around 10.7-litres per 100km, and this is a 12 and 16 percent reduction when compared to the previous engines.
Following the petrol motors is the 3.0-litre V6 diesel unit which weighs 20kilograms less than the outgoing version. There will be 240-horsepower with 550Nm of torque, and this allows for a 0-100km/h time of 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 215km/h.
Fuel consumption on the V6 diesel will be 7.4-litres per 100km, and it’s a 19 percent improvement over the previous TDI motor.
Audi will also offer another “Clean Diesel” version of the same motor. This unit will meet Euro 6 emission standards as it uses a DeNox catalytic converter in the exhaust system. Power stands at 240-horsepower with 550Nm of torque, which happens to be similar to the one above. The change, however, comes as the 0-100km/h time is 0.2 seconds slower.
Funny enough, whilst the engine is cleaner than the previous version, the Clean Diesel uses more fuel. The diesel consumption sits at 8.4-litres per 100km.
Changes do not stop here.
Audi has modified the Q7’s 4.2-litre TDI engine by adding a 2000-bar fuel injection system. This will not change the power rating, but it will however boost the torque by 40Nm to 800Nm.
All of these engines will now be able to connect to eight-speed automatic gearboxes.
