Metin Senturk, a Turkish pop-singer and occasional speed-racer, has become the world’s fastest unaccompanied blind driver. Mr Senturk follows Hein Wagner, a South African who currently holds the fastest ever blind driving speed record of 322km/h. Hein was assisted whilst racing to over 300km/h in a Mercedes-Benz SL65 Black Series.

Metin raced a Ferrari F430 to 292.89km/h at the Urfa airport in Turkey, and this beats the previous record of 284km/h by a British bank manager.

The new record holder has been blind since the age of three, and he received tips about speeding up and slowing down from Volkan Isik, a former rally driver. Volkan Isik followed Metin in a chase car where he offered instructions through radio.

“We really worked hard and we believed in ourselves and achieved it at the end. No one can take this record from us. Whoever tries to take it, I am going to beat his one adding 20 more kilometres and this record will stay with us, forever,” Metin Senturk told reporters.
