EuroV Regulations Cause Problems For Mazda’s RX8 — Say Good Bye

Mazda’s legendary rotary engine recently fell short of European emission regulations. The result of this has caused Mazda to kill off the RX8 sports car.

Mazda has used rotary power in the sports car for quite some time now, and when it failed to meet EuroV emissions the automaker decided to scrap the current project.

At the moment, there are a few RX8’s in stock, however once they are sold that’s it. Nothing left, for that generation.

But wait, there is a light at the end of this tunnel. Mazda is planning a next-generation RX8 with a new rotary. The brand is, however, first making sure that the motor will meet EuroVI regulations which come into play during 2014.

It’s been said that the engineers are struggling to reduce weight and fuel consumption on the current generation engine, and this would be the hold up.

When the new model will be released, we’re not sure.

There won’t be a new RX-8. It’ll be a new RX-7 inspired by the Furai.

Well, they still have to make the motor, and concepts. Could be something entirely new too :D
