Fiat Boss Would Love To Merge With Peugeot-Citroen
Miscellaneous, Reports | Dean | April 13, 2010 at 17:54Fiat, and Chrysler’s top-dog, Sergio Marchionne has suggested or hinted that the next big merger might be with the PSA Peugeot-Citroen group from France.
“The next merger will probably be French,” Marchionne told reporters in Rome today. “They [PSA] tried with Mitsubishi and they will try with someone else.”
Marchionne has agreed that if they had to partner up with PSA, it would be a “marriage made in heaven.”
Sergio has suggested that to survive in the international market, automakers have to build about 5 million cars per year. A merger would obviously make this easier.
PSA built 3.2 million cars last year, while Fiat and Chrysler built 2 and 1.3 million, respectively. The credit crunch cut down on some production, so this should increase for up and coming years.
It’s all talk, nothing is happening. Just yet.
