Auto Shows, New Cars | Dean | April 2, 2010 at 20:49Kia’s 2011 Optima has made its way to the New York Motor Show. The new model will be longer, wider and better looking than the model which it replaces. Designed by Peter Schreyer, the Kia Optima for 2011 will have loads of mechanical pieces to make it one of the top contenders in its range.
There will be a unibody frame with a front-wheel-drive layout. There will be a new rear suspension system followed by MacPherson struts in the front end.
Engine wise the Kia Optima will boast a direct-injection Theta II engine with 200-horsepower. The displacement on the motor is 2.4-litres. You’ll be able to connect the Sonata to a six-speed automatic or manual gearbox.
The beginning of the 2011 Optima’s life will see a hybrid model which uses the same powertrain as the Sonata Hybrid. The engine will be a 2.4-litre Atkinson Cycle petrol engine connected to a 30kW electric motor. The overall power output will be 209-horsepower with 195lb-ft of torque.
Trim levels include LX, EX and SX. The LX will have dual exhaust tips in chrome, solar glass, turn signals on the mirrors and a set of 16-inch wheels.
Expect to find fog lights and chrome or body coloured door handles, along with 17-inch wheels on the EX model.
The SX will have HID headlights with autoleveling, LED rear lights, a new front grille, a rear lip spoiler, sculpted sides and a set of 18-inch wheels.
