The New Opel Astra Will Hit The South African Market In 2011

General Motors South Africa has revealed that the Opel Astra will join the market during the first three months of 2011. The company said that the improved business conditions from Opel have opened up new opportunities in South Africa.

“The certainty around the future of Opel is great news for South Africa and allows us to build on the fine history of the Opel brand and the Corsa and Astra ranges,” says GMSA Vice President of Planning, Ian Nicholls.

The new Astra will arrive in a coupe-like 5-door layout where it will have various engines which include four ECOTEC petrol units. These include a 1.4, 1.4 Turbo, 1.6 and 1.6 Turbo range. The diesel line up will house 1.3, 1.7 and 2.0-litre displacements.

GM has said that fuel ratings meet Euro5 standards.
