Turbocharged Formula One Cars For 2013? Bosses Say It’s Possible

bmw-sauber-lotus The bosses at Formula One are discussing possibilities to revert back to turbocharged engines. The white-haired men behind the sport are considering 1.5-litre turbocharged engines for the 2013 season.

A move to forced-induction is expected to attract new sponsors, teams and manufacturers. There is also the detail that it would support ‘green’ power.

Following this, the bosses are trying to confirm the re-introduction of KERS for 2011. Sources around this said that a KERS system is only half of the talk behind the future changes.

The main aim at the moment would be downsizing.

An insider was quoted, “A number of possible engine configurations are being looked at but all at a sensitive stage. [There is a big push] for current units to remain [for cost reasons] but the FIA is keen on a step change in technology.”

Perhaps this would be the change for companies such as Volkswagen to officially enter the sport?
