Rumour Has It: BMW M8 Hybrid Sports Car Based On Vision ED Concept?
Hybrid/Electric, Miscellaneous, Rumours | Dean | June 30, 2010 at 21:58German news sources, namely – Auto Zeitung, are speculating that a new plug-in hybrid based on the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept could soon be created. There is a chance that the name could be the “M8″ where it would use a mid-mounted internal combustion engine with an electric drive motor sporting over 447kW.
Instead of the original diesel-powered engine, the news source is speculating that the plug-in hybrid would use a 5.0-litre engine from the M5. The engine will pushing out 388kW of power, where the electric motors will pump out 60kW for the rear and 37kW for the front.
If everything goes to plan, the driving range could be around 50-kilometers. The 0-100km/h time will be under 3.8 seconds and the top speed well over 300km/h. A combined fuel rating of 3.5 to 3.8-litres is expected.
The cost is speculated to be about €150,000.
