It’s Official! Porsche Will Produce The 918 Spyder Hybrid Supercar
Featured, Hybrid/Electric, New Cars | Dean | July 29, 2010 at 00:08Porsche has officially announced that they will build a limited number of 918 Spyder plug-in hybrid concepts.
Porsche previously said that there would need to be 1,000 orders as a minimum for the company to consider the hybrid Spyder, and it seems as if they have reached this number. In fact, rumours state that Porsche hit 2,000 interested individuals.
Michael Macht, President and Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche AG said “Production of the 918 Spyder in a limited series proves that we are taking the right approach with Porsche Intelligent Performance featuring the combination of supreme performance and efficient drivetrain concepts.”
Porsche’s two-seater 918 Spyder concept is a plug-in hybrid with a mid-mounted 3.4-litre V8 petrol engine–pumping out 373kW–connected to electric motors on the front and rear axles for extra kick.
It was said that the hybrid should return 3-litres per 100km of fuel with CO2 emissions at only 79g/km. The 0-100kmh/h was hinted to be around 3.2 seconds.
Porsche will design the hybrid in Weissach and assemble it in Zuffenhausen.
