According to Autoweek, MINI are working on an entry-level concept which should debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. The addition of the entry-level MINI all depends on the reaction of the public when it is revealed, said an unnamed source.

It’s expected that the entry-MINI will be a two-seater (unlike the image) where it will boast a modified front wheel-drive platform made for a front-engined car, as well as a short wheel base which puts it into the same category as the Toyota iQ and Smart car.

“The idea to create a highly compact Mini model is one that has been on the agenda for quite a while,” said the source. “On the outside it would appear a natural fit for the brand, but profitability is a major concern at this end of the market.”

“It’s one thing making a good-looking small car, but it’s another thing making money on it,” the source concluded.
