Jaguar has created a brand new XJ with special armour protection. It’s called the Jaguar XJ Sentinel and it will be unveiled at the Moscow MOtor Show later this month.

The XJ Sentinel will boast high-strength steel with a Kevlar backing which offers ballistic protection up to a B7 level, blast protection against 15kg of TNT, and substantial underfloor grenade protection. There will be a set of 19-inch Aleutian Alloy Wheels which are strengthened and they will run on Dunlop Self Supporting Technology Run on Flat tires.

Jaguar’s new armour-protected Sentinel was created in partnership with Centigon, an armouring specialist, and it was said that the Jaguar Sentinel is pretty much indistinguishable from the standard XJ model.

Power comes from a 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine connected to a six-speed manual transmission. The 287kW engine will get from 0-100km/h in 9.7 seconds and it will run to a top speed of 195km/h.

Naturally all of the extra body armour adds increased weight, and because of the 3,800kg total weight, the company added a re-tuned steering and suspension system along with new powerful brakes.

“The XJ Sentinel is the ultimate armoured luxury limousine,” said Mike O’Driscoll, Managing Director at Jaguar Cars. “It offers governments, security organisations and private individuals, the highest level of security, with advanced design, refined performance and a beautifully-crafted cabin. The XJ Sentinel will be the vehicle of choice for the most discerning,” he added.
