Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 — The World’s First Production Diesel-Hybrid
Hybrid/Electric, New Cars | Dean | August 24, 2010 at 22:04Peugeot’s 3008 Hybrid4 is the world’s first production diesel-hybrid model which uses a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine connected to an electric motor. The 121kW diesel motor will power the front wheels where the 27kW electric motor will drive the rear wheels. Because of the aforementioned setup, the 3008 Hybrid4 is more fuel efficient than a standard petrol-hybrid model.
There’s an overall of 149kW of power with a combined maximum of 500Nm of torque — 300Nm for the front and 200Nm for the rear. The 0-100km/h time is 8.8 seconds where the top speed is 209km/h.
Features on the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 include Start & Stop, an electronically controlled six-speed manual sequential gearbox, and an energy recovery system which charges the Nickel Metal Hydride battery pack.
There is support for all driving modes: front wheel only; rear wheel only; or all-wheel drive.
The driving modes include: Auto – which changes between the engine and electric motor for maximum fuel consumption; ZEV – which runs on electricity only for 4.5-km; 4WD – which uses both the engine and the electric motor; and Sport – which uses the full 149kW setup to its full potential.
Peugeot has rated the fuel consumption at 3.8-litres per 100km where the CO2 emissions sit at 99g/km.
Sales are expected to start in 2011.
