2011 Opel Astra To Launch Sooner Than Expected In South Africa

General Motors South Africa has announced that the new Opel Astra will launch sooner than expected, in South Africa. The 2011 Astra was originally scheduled to launch in 2011, however Opel now will stock the new models in the next few weeks.

There will be five-doors, with a sporty-coupe like design. Power comes from a 1.4-litre, a 1.6-litre turbocharged, and a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated ECOTEC engine. These motors will be connect to either a five or six-speed gearbox.

GMSA’s Vice President of Product Engineering Wendle Roberts says that “the new Astra is the best ever.., an impressive vehicle build to the highest quality standards. We are very happy with the exceptional performance of the turbo charged power trains which also have class leading CO2 emission figures.”

Opel’s new Astra will offer the FlexRide Chassis with Drive Mode Control, an adaptive chassis system which allows for a smoother ride and better handling.

Pricing to be announced soon.
