Volkswagen Amarok Released: New 1-Ton Bakkie

Volkswagen has released their 1-ton bakkie into the South African market. It’s called the Volkswagen Amarok and it offers “Best in Class” payload and cargo-loading abilities. The Amarok offers two different engines, and a double-cab body-style. In 2011 VW will introduce a Single-Cab with a longer load bed.

The first engine for the Amarok is a 2.0-litre TDI with 90kW and 340Nm of torque. The 0-100km/h time on this motor is 13.5 seconds where the top speed amounts to 163km/h. Fuel-wise, this motor will use 7.7-litres per 100km and emit 202g/km of CO2. This motor will be available in two models, the base model with rear wheel drive, and the 4Motion with switchable four-wheel-drive.

Following this, the next motor is a Bi-Turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel with 120kW and 400Nm of torque. This motor will also be available in rear-wheel and 4Motion layout, where the 0-100km/h time comes in at 10.8 seconds with a top speed of 182km/h. The fuel rating amounts to 7.9 seconds with CO2 emissions of 208g/km.

There will be two trim levels available, the Trendline and the Highline. The standard features for the Trendline include adjustable front seats, a folding rear bench, a light for the load-bed, and body-coloured bumpers, door handles and mirrors. There will be a semi-automatic climate control system, a multi-functional display, cruise control, fog-lights and 16-inch wheels as a standard. The Highline trim-level will include chrome mirrors, 17-inch wheels, a contrasting instrument panel, an automatic climate control system, and a high-performance sound system.

Volkswagen said that the load capacity for the Amarok amounts to 1-ton, making it one of the top runner bakkies.

Safety equipment includes Electronic Stability Control/Program, Off-Road Mode, Electronic Differential Locks, Anti-Slip Regulation and ABS. There’s a Hill Decent Assist when Off-Rode Mode is activated.

Amarok comes standard with a 3 year/120 000 km manufacturer warranty and 5 year/90 000 km Automotion Service Plan.

All models have a 6 year anti-corrosion warranty and 15 000 km service intervals.
